"He said people who are here is the toughest part of the immigration debate, that it must be something that respects border security..."

"... but deals with this in a humane and efficient manner... The idea is we’re not getting someone in front of the line, we’re doing it in a legal way, but he wants to hear ideas of how we deal with 11 million people that are here with no documents."

He's full of surprises. Watch out for Nice Trump. What will Hillary do if Nice Trump arrives on the scene?

I fully expect Trump to moderate his immigration stance.

And soon after, Hillary will start sweating, in addition to coughing, gagging, tripping, slipping, barking and taking weekends off.

"If nice Trump arrives" - that's the tell. Revocable residency with limited pathways to citizenship is what we have now. We could spell out the conditions for revocation and deportation. And offer some way to earn citizenship.

As for Hiillary, I'm sure she'd love it if Nice Trump shows up for the debates. But I'd advise her to expect the rope-a-dope.

"In Reversal, Trump Indicates To Hispanic Leaders Openness To Legalization For Immigrants" Why reversal? He was in favor of touchback amnesty all along. He only seems to be reversing himself on deportation, which was never serious because impossible. Soon, the reversal will lead to something like the proposal for which Rubio was vilified.

Nice Trump, if he exists, wins the election.

Nice Trump is a Great Leader. It's what you get when you cross an FDR with a George Patton.

Even if he ends up adopting 90% of her platform, he will pride himself on doing it more efficiently -- his last name was Drumpf after all. He'll either do everything under budget or go bankrupt.

So it is inhumane to make Mexican citizens live in Mexico?

It's also nice to know that nasty Trump exists and he's not inhibited about showing it. Hillary keeps "nasty Hillary" hidden -- therefore we cannot gauge it.

How many people not named "Unknown" want to vote for Hillary?

One of the many reasons 30k of her emails have been deep-sixed.

"Chanie" you may want to take a second looks at ads, they're anti-Hillary Trump ads!

Trumpists will soon get bored with nice Trump, so will Trump himself. I give him a week.

These ads are a new dimension here. I know our hostess is a fan of Drudgtapositions. Just above this post (for me right now) is an ad for Ukrainian brides.

If nice Trump was nice to Hillary at the debates his followers will be mighty dissapointed. I recall all the slavering over the prospect of him tearing her from limb to limb.

So what? He's already got them.

"so will Trump himself."

Yeah, probably.

According to the polls, far more than those who want to vote for Trump.

Nobody wants to vote for Crooked Hillary.

They figure they don't have a choice. Trump needs to give them a choice.

Trumpists may get mighty PO'd, no wall and a now possibly a path to citizenship for all those Mexicans? I thought he was so worried about them being rapists?

Recall that prior to Trump, there was absolutely no discussion of immigration as an issue. Jeb! and Hillary want even more immigration; Cruz wanted to drastically increase H-1B visas; Rubio was no different.

Prior to Trump, there was no discussion of any negative aspect of open borders.

Bush couldn't do it.
Obama couldn't do it.
But Trump is gonna do it?
It's really hard for a president to push a policy that 2/3 of voters are against.

Before Trump, there was no national discussion of open borders. It was a done deal on both sides -- (R)and (D). This isn't rocket science, folks.

"Well, he just lost Achilles vote."

I grew up on a family orchard. We employed 3 families year round and 20-30 people seasonally. I worked all through my teens and college years with immigrants. I still play with the same Hispanic league team I played with when I was 20. We are all 40 now. When my mom worked at the local head start she was friends with the non contract workers who were mostly Hispanic. I am pretty damned certain I talk to more immigrants than you do douchebag.

If you think they want open borders you are stupid. Criminals almost always prey on their own racial demographic. They are the legal ones now. The ones who can legally vote. The crime coming from Mexico hits them. Most of the rape and murder victims of illegal immigrants are Hispanic.

You should realize the people who would benefit the most from a secure border are my friends who immigrated from Mexico. I am also on record as saying I would love to trade OWS members for most immigrants. They work hard and raise solid families. You can add BLM people to the list now too. But there is a significant number of illegal immigrants who need to be deported. I see nothing wrong with Trump's take on this issue.

Hillary is still utterly unable to list a single positive accomplishment of her own. She will get ~44% of the vote with absolutely no upside. Less if Jill steine gets any airtime. Even the libertarians pull more from her than trump.

As this campaign moves forward the press will have to work harder to cover for her. She is a sinking ship and her health is failing. #whereshillary is trending as we speak. Only the truly soulless and disgusting will be able to stay with her.

Trump should just come right out with his true self, his followers won't care, he's got them hook line and sinker by this point. So he should just be true to himself and release the Democrat who lurks inside of him. At the debates he may be so nice to Hillary and she to him that they may even hug. Everything's better when everyone's nice. No?

Trump has crossover appeal, thankfully to the rank and file; Hillary has crossover appeal too, to the rank defiled like George Will and Billy Kristol.

You wish. But it is going to be trump saying to hillary's face what an honest media would be saying. Hillary is a soulless corrupt grifter with absolutely no positive accomplishments over 30 years and a sociopath and liar to boot. Hillary will have to answer why she lied to the parents of dead veterans. Hillary will be asked why obamacare is in a death spiral. Trump is nice to actual Americans, not disgusting machine politicians.

You don't have to deport them, but you also don't need to legalize them. The status quo is likely to be the course followed in a Trump presidency, if for no other reason than Congress couldn't agree to do anything else. Also, if you really wanted them to leave, crack down on the employers who hire them.

Any path the full legalization is going to be unpopular, and half-measures aren't likely to get any support to pass Congress, either. This is why the Democrats have decided to have it done by presidential fiat- the Republicans in the House decided to not share the heat.

On pure politics alone, stiffening the penalties for hiring of undocumented aliens would thread the needle of what Trump can offer to accomplish, and it would be enough.

#nevertrumpers are delusional.

eric said...

This is what I see happening.

The left, MSM, and #NeverTrump demonize those of us who want a law and order border enforcement strategy. They say we want crazy things, like deporting 11 million illegals in a year or two. That we want to lock people up in internment camps. That we want to separate families. Etc.

When we say, no, you're hyperbolic mischaracterization of our position is false, they scream, "pivot!" Or, "They are softening their stance!"

Sorta funny.

How to deal with 11 million undocumented immigrants? Give them 90 days to submit to fingerprint & DNA ID at any local police station, ask Mexico to confirm their IDs, and in 180 days anyone without such ID is subject to immediate deportation, seizure of all assets, and felony arrest if found in the country ever again.

Those who acquire IDs get to be residents for the next 5 years, with a 75% tax rate, before they have to go home. Immediate deportation and asset seizure upon conviction for anything more serious than traffic citations. No money can be sent outside the country by them without a 75% tax on the transaction. They can never become legal immigrants.

Incentives matter.

Levi Starks said...

Oh they have documents, there are documents that verify their actual country of origin which is also their legal place of residency.

Someone mentioned the Bush - Dukakis race the other day and the polling therefrom. I took a quick look and this piece in the NYT has Dukakis up by 10 the end of July. This more recent piece recounts how Dukakis came out of the D convention up 17 points. Hillary and the Duke are about equally dynamic as candidates. I think that things are going to get a lot more interesting now that the "nice" Donald has shown up. As for the Donald who proposes good policies, he's been here all along.

We should read ACHILLES' 1202 comment carefully. Can Trump appeal to these voters? Will he be flexible enough to try? How long can Hillary run on the "racist" theme before it gets really tired?

Criminal record? Most of their life on government assistance? Deport them.

An honest work history? Permanent resident alien status, with no path to citizenship for themselves EVER, but citizenship for any of their children born in the U.S.

Kids? If born in another country and brought over by parents/relatives when they are minors, then they get a path to citizenship that ensures they are committed to being citizens of the U.S. and not hypenated nationals with a foot in each culture.
