"Bride Is Walked Down Aisle by the Man Who Got Her Father’s Donated Heart."

"'One of my first thoughts in that following week was, "Who will walk me down the aisle?"... I was thinking, "Oh, my gosh, it would be so incredible to have a physical piece of my father there."'..."
“I felt wonderful about bringing her dad’s heart to Pittsburgh,” Mr. Thomas said. “If I had to, I would’ve walked.”

Sweet story. I only hope they were serenaded by an organ.

I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories. But then I'm a sucker for the end of Romeo and Juliet.

Organ donation wins.

Be a winner even when the way you go out really really sucks.

I'm not a widow, because a family made the decision, even in their grief, that their son's death could mean life to others. My husband got the heart. I thank them every year on the anniversary of their son's death and my husband's rebirth.

@MathMom -- I'm certain they appreciate that their son is remembered. I would.

Too bad it wasn't given to Steve Jobs. She could have gotten an iPhone, or maybe even a MacBook.

As long as there isn't an incentive to abortion, then donating their organs, cells, etc., should be an individual choice.

Used to work in the area (Swissvale, Pa) where the murder took place. At the time I worked there in the early 80's it on the border of high crime area. Times change.

Great story. Hopefully this will lead to more organ availability.

I knew a person who got a heart transplant, the donor was a man who had to have a heart/lung transplant -- at least then they had to do both heart and lungs when the lungs were bad. So he got to meet the man whose heart he had.

Mickey Mantle should have taken the son of his liver donor out for a couple of drinks. The top shelf stuff.

Sweet story but it brings back bittersweet memories for me. My Dad's best friend walked me down the aisle because my Dad died 5 weeks before my wedding, while he was waiting for a heart transplant.
